TradingView alert integration, better futures trading and intra-candle indicator updates

We recently rolled out a bunch of new features for WolfBot:

TradingView alert integration

WolfBot cloud can now automatically parse and trade on all alerts coming from TradingView. This includes signals from the Crypto Screener, built-in Indicators and even custom Pine Scripts.
You can use WolfBot as a backend connector to exchanges to automate all your trades on TradingView.
To use this feature just go to the “Config” page of your WolfBot and select the strategy file named “TradingViewSignal”.

BitMEX faster updates

BitMEX realtime trading has been an increasing problem for many users, especially since they opened their own trading desk. Timed-out orders and delayed WebSocket trade updates were a common cause for frustration of many traders. We improved our BitMEX connection a lot and added some fallbacks. This means that even during volatile markets WolfBot will now be able to do accurate live trading again.

Deribit Bitcoin futures trading

As an alternative to BitMEX we added 100x Bitcoin futures trading from Deribit.com. There is a sample strategy file named “Deribit” which you can select on the “Config” page to get started.

Intra-candle indicator updates

You can now chose to update your indicators on every live trade coming in. To do this, just put “updateIndicatorsOnTrade”: true, into your configuration. See the strategy file “Deribit” for an example.

50% October Discount and new guides

This October we offer a 50% signup discount for a WolfBot cloud instance to all new members. See this tweet with information how to get it.

Furthermore the guides section in our forum has new material. Especially:

  • Backtesting: A must-read for everybody on how to get started, what to look for and what to expect of your backtests.
  • Volume Profile: Volume is in our experience THE most important indicator. Yet still very few people know about Volume by Price (Volume Profile). Read this guide to learn more about it and how to use it for algorithmic trading.
  • Bullish & Bearish Divergence: A trading strategy checking for divergence between a chosen momentum indicator and the current price – usually indicating exhaustion of the bears or bulls.

Push Notifications to your phone with WolfBot

In this short post we want to show you examples of push notifications to your phone.

The most obvious type of notifications are notifications of all trades of WolfBot makes. But we can go beyond that. You can set your trading strategies to notify you on certain events. This is similar to price alerts, only much more powerful since you will receive alerts on sudden price and/or volume moves (or extreme RSI values,…). Since you can do this with all strategies of WolfBot – including your own – there is no limit to what type of market moves you want to get notified about.

Examples of price and volume moves on September 16:

Examples of strong price moves at the beginning of the sharp drop at September 17:

This September at the launch of WolfBot we offer a 50% early access discount code with every cloud bot you buy. Just use this code: fin724psa

Trading guides and ideas available in our forum

There are now the first few guides and trading ideas available in our forum.

You should definitely read the Setting up your first WolfBot instance guide to get familiar with your cloud WolfBot.

The next thing you have to know about every bot is that there is no single on strategy that works for all coins in all market states (high/low volatility and bullish/bearish)! Just like ever trader interprets indicators in a different way (or uses different indicators), all algorithmic trading strategies are developed with different goals in mind.

Simply put: stop looking for the silver bullet, instead:

  1. Make yourself aware about how much risk you are willing to take. Higher risks, such as margin and futures trading means higher profits, but also higher potential losses.
  2. Allocate “your” right position size: It is not true that the more capital you  put in your trades, the more risky your trading is automatically, as novice traders somethings say. It is however true, that the more percentual gains of your existing capital you want to achieve, the more risky your trading becomes. For example: Trading with 100$ and trying to achieve 200$ (a 100% gain) is very risky. This means you will be “forced” to to margin or highly leveraged futures trades and/or try to catch spikes of some low market cap coins. While on the other hand trading with 10.000$ and trying to get to 11.000$ (only a 10% gain) can be done with little risk, no margin trading within a month while only trading on the top 10 market cap coins.
  3. Identify your position time: Some traders prefer to keep positions open for weeks, others for hours (day traders) while others just prefer to trade on 5min candles to catch sudden spikes. It is very tempting with a bot to go for the 5min and below algo trading approach. However, for novice traders with less than 1 year of experience how markets work, I advise against that.
Keeping your positions open for at least 3-6 hours with a (trailing) stop and a profit goal is less risky because you won’t make so manic panic sells/buys, will cause less trading fees, and you will get a deeper understanding of how markets work.

Now that you have thought about those 3 points, here are a few concrete examples how you can use WolfBot to achieve your trading goals:

  • Planning daily/weekly trades at certain price levels:
This is a guide how to look at support/resistance levels and enter your planed buy/sell prices into WolfBot. If price reaches that level and some indicators you define (such as RSI) match at that price level, then WolfBot will trade for you.
  • Trendline Scalping:
Similar to the first approach, but with while keeping your position only open for a few minutes to 1h. Usually used with leveraged futures trading, more risky!
  • Short-term Price & Volume Spikes and long-term highs/lows:
This guide opens positions at sudden price and/or volume spikes. You don’t have to set any price levels. Positions are usually kept open for a few hours.
Additionally this guide shows you how to analyze market movements such as trades buy vs sell ratio and high vs low volume trades. You can incorporate that information in other trading strategies.

50% Early Access Discount

WolfBot has been released on Github . We are currently setting up our cloud infrastructure and management tasks. Then WolfBot will be released as a cloud version within a few weeks. The cloud version will offer the latest stable version of WolfBot (no need for software updates, recompilation, dependency changes) running 24/7 on our servers. It will include all public official strategies plus some premium strategies from experienced crypto traders.

So why WolfBot? How did it all start?

I have been a software engineer for over 13 years. I was always interested in cryptos and since I am sitting 12h+ daily on my computer I decided to give crypto trading a try with some manual trading. I soon realized that going to sleep in shaky crypto markets can be dangerous. But placing a simple stop was also not what I wanted because it will likely get hit during a sharp drop even if the overall market still moves in the same direction as my open position. So I coded my own stop-loss strategy, that doesn’t trigger immediately at a certain price level, but instead wait if the price really stays below that level for some time. Simple, yet quite effective.

Soon I got a taste for developing more and more advanced strategies. Now – about 2 years later –  I have developed over 200 trading strategies and been doing lot’s of arbitrage and margin lending (where you have to optimize for a 2nd parameter on a 2nd y-axis: the time of your loan, instead of just price like with trading/arbitrage).
Trading has been part of my daily life while working on other software projects ever since. My friends come to me as their “crypto expert” for advice which coin to buy and use my trading bot. Some even want to give me money so that I trade for them – an offer which I refuse because as a successful trader I know friendship is more important 😉

Here are some screenshots of WolfBot’s current user interface. This will likely still change and improve over the next few months, but just that you get an idea. WolfBot is already fully working and ready. We are not doing an ICO here for an idea who’s implementation might be years away 😉
